i find it hard to believe that a dorman driveshaft(which is square at both ends) will bolt onto the oem differential(which is a circle).
can anyone here verify this is the way it installs? i attached pics of 4.0 and 4.6, and of the dorman 4.6 stock photo.
if this will bolt onto the differential, wouldn't this cause a dirty opening to the differential?
i have searched hours for pics or facts on the web, nothing!

A stock photo is just that- a stock photo, so you can't go by that at all. Regardless...many driveshafts are like that at the rear axle. The diff has a round flange with threaded holes in it, the driveshaft has a square cast end that bolts to the flange. There is no opening into the diff. Most likely if you buy the dorman driveshaft it would have the round flange as shown.

thank you for the reply. i spent a half hour with dorman tech, they called ford while i was on hold and they reassured me that their product(square at both ends) is the correct part for my 2006 mustang gt. i am a lifelong DIY and pretty good, but this is my first driveshaft project. if what you are telling me is that a square flange bolts onto a round flange and is not uncommon, then i am content. i tried to explain to dorman that i think they posted incorrect photo of their 4.6 v8 product, they rechecked everything twice and still say their pic is correct for the v8 part.. a part of me still thinks something is amiss. oh man the anxiety of the wait for part and install! ugh.... i will post pics bc no one has covered this and every seller uses the stock photo. maybe i am overthinking it..

its the only steel one i can find. there are other aluminum ones on americn muscl just $50 more. dorman is about $575 delivered.
i just wanted one that works, not much into upgrades mods, and not interested in trusting a used part from unknown seller....the used ones i see are about $100-$150 but i am simply paranoid of this particular part being a used replacement. i have already pulled the plug on this dorman, yes i should have did more homework but is what it is now and i will use it if it mounts up. i still think it will come with round flange at rear though....

thanks, i skimmed through them too quick....i have tracking on my dorman and will get it friday night. i will post my shop work on this and afterthoughts. if my dorman ends up being round flange at rear, then i should ask finders fees for the next ones sold. i assume why i cant find much on them besides stock photos is bc it shows square and we all know our v8 stangs are round at differential.... they will sell tons more if they correct the pictures if i am correct. from what i can tell dorman driveshafts show pictures of same item. pics for all 3 avail driveshafts from dorman appear to be for the v6 in the pics. 1 for v6 auto, 1 for v6 man, one for v8. the v6 should be the square one on both ends, not for v8

should have trusted my 1st instict instead of trying to get dorman to understand they could totally sell much more of these if they changed their photo of this item 946-807. you can find this item being sold at many places and they ALL use wrong picture. i want my finders fee dorman! lol
it did come with round flange and if they advertised using spicer flanges and ujoints would sell more! here is the only known true pictures of item 946-807 in the world!
