I ground the end of the punch to a shape similar to shape of seal and hit it hard.
I was so happy when the upper half of seal finally moved a little.
I sprayed some carb cleaner and oiled the new seal and was ready to slide it home, YES!
Now which way does that pesky lip go!?!
Here's both on bench
I think the other shot is old seal still in place.
Bearing looks ok?
I had the engine ready to go back in but sun was going down. Can't do it myself, driveway is inclined, so I started cleaning up.
Just then my kid got dropped off from his extracurricular activities.
He got his friends to help and those teens had that block back in and on the mounts in minutes flat.
Just before the sun went down. I think they really enjoyed that moment of glory. We'll frost the cake tomorrow.
I got me some JB weld exhaust pipe toothpaste and some fender washers.
If the goo don't fix the leak I'll have to cut and re weld the mounting flange.
Washers are for trying to move the seat back a bit, hey I'm a big guy.
After determining the GM style HEI won't fit with the stock air cleaner. I got an small cap HEI, in blue.
130$ plus 15$ shipping so it was the right price for sure.
I handed the box to my son and his friends and talked them thru it but they put it in together.
Should of took a picture but it happened pretty quickly. I made them all hold the timing light and look at the timing marks.
A couple of turns of the screwdriver on the carb and it is dialed.
This solved all the tuning problems. If fires instantly and idles so smoothly that I don't think it has a cam anymore.
Instant low RPM throttle response is nice. Just got to tidy up some wires. I want to drive it.
I'm gonna guess that it sounds a bit nicer than what you pulled out since the old one wasn't really in too good of shape....
But it's only Friday night, you have the rest of the weekend to get her up to snuff and maybe take her for a spin! Congrats on getting her fired up though!!
Pedal felt soft. Looked in master cylinder and rear reservoir is empty. So i put a splash of dot 3 in and tried the pedal but it just leaked out the rusty rear brake line. Yup more 45 yr old wore out crap. Not driving it today.
I have that sinking feeling, Like the engine this brake system is gonna need an everything i bet.
Got up at crack of dawn to try and catch the moment when the high winds this last 2 weeks are calmest.
Looking like it flowed out nice for back yard style. Lots of birds today eating the fruits that fell from neighbors tree. Hoping they don't land on it.
My son and I welded up that kids tandem bike a few years ago for a school bike rodeo.
I learned they don't sell many kids tandems for a reason. LOL they still had fun trying.
Here's a shot (of a shot, sorry crappy image) of her fresh home from her first and only show 10 yrs ago.
Ahh! The Glory Days (well moment)
Gotta Look close to see the 3 or 4 other mustangs in the yard.
