351W VS. 351 modified

Hey guys I want to build a 408 roller for my mustang and my dad has a 1982 Ford E350 box van sitting out back. I know it has a 351 but I dont know how to tell if it is a Windsor or a modifed, these are the only two offered during 1982 so does anyone know how to tell before I pull it out? thanks

Easy way to tell is the amount of bolts on the valve covers.

Windsor block will have 6 valve cover bolts, 335 Series will have 8.

Windsor will have thermostat housing on intake, 335 series will have it on the block.

Yep:nice:

If it is a 351M, I would pass it...

I would look for a 351 Windsor.

The 351M's (335 Series) do not have as big of an aftermarket. You could go with the 400 (4" stroke, over the 3.5"), or some 434" stroker kits, but the heads and intake options are very slim:notnice:
