Im looking for a good 500HP recipe using the stock block. I would love a dart block or Man of war block but they are just so damn expensive. It's a twin turbo set-up running through an AOD-e tranny. Im gonna lose about 20% HP running through this but I want as close to 500RWHP as I can get.

Thinking about THUMPER heads or Bodix heads, with a Trickflow Box intake manifold. Not sure which cam and all forged internals for the bottom end maybe a 331 set up. Not gonna beat on the car everyday, but I have a few vettes and Cameros i wanna kill...

500 at the wheels is pretty close to the limits of a stock block.

you might consider a stock 351 windsor bottom end with heads and intake and a single turbo. that would be well within the limits of the block and could make your 500 pretty easily

I would prefer the 302 for weight savings and smaller physical size so you have more room for the turbo kit. But the 351 block should be safe to 600-700rwhp...

My opinion.....Good DD but maybe short of 500rwhp
302/306 with forged 9:1cr bottom end
Aluminum heads of choice
stock cam
Aftermarket intake of choice
Single/Twin turbo setup

Moar Power!!!
331/347
AFR 185 heads or equivalent TF
Performer RPM II or equivalent
Custom Cam
Twins

I'd build a 331 or 347 to keep the revs down. The key to making the stock block hold the beans is to make the power down low. A turbo combo is perfect for that.

I wouldn't say that. My last 347 was darn close to 600hp and lasted 10 years.

Kurt
600 (at the FW) *.85 (typical drivetrain loss) = 510 (at the wheels)

1slow95 put down 450 at the wheels, and he had a pretty agressive combo.

so are you saying you made more power with your 347 than most guys make with their 408s? all motor or on the juice? i know you didn't have a blower.

did you ever dyno it, and if so, can you post the graph?

and what track times were you running?

school us please

The crank is worth more than a dart block...... anyone else think that makes no cents

I think with an auto your really going to be pushing the limits of the stock block. I'd build a 357, with a procharger or a novi 2000 if i were in your shoes

It was 491rwhp/630rwtq. Never really got a good track time with it. I was spraying 150 on it. I just never have enough time to go to the track these days.

Forged Eagle 3.400" crank, with eagle 5.4" rods
SRP pistons slight dish
Canfield 192cc heads/58cc chamber
Trick Flow 3 camshaft

I admit the weak point of the whole combo was the camshaft.

My old combo was very simple:

stock 110,000 mile 94 Cobra longblock
Custom cam
stock gt-40 iron heads
stock 94 cobra intake
Vortech S-trim making 14 lbs of boost

Car made 505 rwhp & 467 rwtq

Ran 10.9 @ 128 mph in a 3450lb car
