68 Mustang 289 engine swap

I have recently purchased a 68 mustang that came with a 200 straight 6 engine and a C4 trans. I also have an engine out of a 64 galaxie that I was wondering if it would fit into the mustang.

Will a 64 289 out of a Galaxie fit into a 68 mustang? Will the 289 just drop into the mustang and bolt in or do I need to alter the transmission, motor mounts, and anything else???

If you use the Galaxie 289, you'll also have to use the transmission too. That 289 will have a 5 bolt bellhousing bolt pattern. The 65-68 289's use a different 6 bolt bellhousing.

anything is possible with the right parts. you can make that 289 absolutely ****ing scream if you build it right. that's what i'm doing

Thanks 67topless. That thread has alot of usefull info. Thanks all for the help. I have the block in the shop now getting dipped. I am just going to leave it stock except for maybe a performance cam.

Any hints on a good performance cam and lifters????

Unless you want to spend money on screw in studs........... go no bigger than an "RV" style cam. These are typically in the 200-220* duration @ .050 and no more than .515 lift.
