My hat is off to you! I thought I had seen it all, done it all, but you have bested me! I love to see how much you can do, that I have not done (and never will, at 75!). imp
The rear aprons are preped and ready to go . I punched all the plug weld holes ,the tower bump stop holes line up perfectly so i bolted them down before welding . I checked my measurements and they are right on ,lets get welding
I trimmed off the front cross member and drilled plug weld holes in the radiator support ,it is the one with the cross member already attached. I clamped the radiator support in place ,you cant go wrong ,it fits tight between the frame rails and hooks over the end of the frame rails
welded the radiator support and crossmember ,my welder was showing off and made a lot of tbe welds where i will not even have to grind them ...must be tired of me cussing at it . I clamped the inner aprons in place ,pretty much cant go wrong here either ,align the front bolt holes with the radiator support and bolt through the spring tower shock cover holes and the measurements were right on ,just had to weld it all in place .the front is done ,except for grinding the plug welds
The driver side rear quarter and tail panel is next ,but first i have to fit the new doors so i have somthing to align the quarters with
I got out my new Dynacorn doors ,and this set is nice . Did you know 67 and 68 door hinge plates are different ,they are 68s on the top and 67 will not bolt into a 68 so since i wasnt brought plates i had to dig some out
I bolted the hinges to driver side but left them loose untill i also had the door bolted snug .they fit good enough all i had to do was lift slightly on the door and tighten the hinges .i did passenger side the same way .Now i can trim off the quarters one side at at time so i have a point to measure from .
I had to pull off for a bit . Its time for the quarters. I melted the lead out of the quarter to roof joint ,keep the heat below the roof since this will stay . There is spot welds and tack welds to deal with.
I have to sand blast and prime inside but i did a quick test fit ,having a bit of trouble lifting the quarter in the rear but the scoop to door area is going to need some work
One thing to check is the way the end cap fits to the quarter ,sometimes you have to drill the quarter and the piece under the cap loose and re fit the two to get the caps to fit ,these are just about perfect
I wish it was that easy . Gone this whole year with very little work and now all of a sudden i am over booked ,have to keep pulling off to start somthing else but i should be back on the pass side quarter by the weekend
Finally got back to work on it . The quarter is on and tacked front and back ,tomorrow i will weld it up and grind all tbe welds and this one will be finished
