94 Mustang V6 Oil Leak!

Hello,

Yesterday I noticed a puddle of oil under the car after it had been running for about a minute or so. It was about 8 inches in diameter. When the car is not running, it does not leak. I crawled under and took a look at it, and it looks like it is coming from the top of the oil filter. There is an oil run on the side. I do not think it that it is the housing gasket since the oil is just around the very top of the filter, the pictures will make more sense. I had the oil and filter changed about 500 miles ago.

Based on the pictures and the symptoms is it possible that just the filter needs to be replaced? Thanks for your help in advance, it is very much appreciated.

Might look and see if it has been double gasketed. Worth the $5 buck filter to find out lol

Thanks for your advice. I took it in (had it towed to be safe), and long story short it was the oil filter. They did not charge anything. They did not tell me exactly what went wrong, I was just happy this was not a 2000 dollar repair.
