Are walbro 255lph pumps any good?

They are known to have problems in that application. The 2001 Cobra uses a returnless style fuel system . That walbro pump was designed to work with a return style fuel system. Meaning that the fuel pump was designed to run full on and fuel pressure at the rail (the fuel injectors) is regulated by the fuel regulator (a diaphragm device that regulates fuel pressure by watching the manifold pressure via vacum hose). In our application, they are controlling fuel pressure at the rail by varying the voltage to the walbro fuel pump. Remember, this pump was designed to see a constant voltage that keeps it full on. In a supercharged application, like I have, I have data logged pressure at the fuel rails and sometimes you can see the fuel pressure drop momentarily. Under normal highway driving its fine and sits around 40psi. When you stomp on it under WOT sometimes it can drop as low as 20psi or lower momentarily when the rpms climb up. The pressure comes right back up and it only dips briefly. If you are not hot dog'n it all the time then your fine. If you plan on making a lot of horse power the popular solution seems to be to install the 03/04 cobra fuel tank with the duel fuel pumps already installed inside. They say it will support up to 550rwhp.
