trying to get I to a 67 at some point so
Still getting a feel for the market and what’s out there. Not looking to do a full restoration but don’t mind taking one in for paint.

might go look at one locally. He is asking $8500. It’s a 67 coupe. 289 roller, 9 inch rear. Dunno what brakes yet. Pictures show some rust but it’s hard to tell how bad it is. A real minus for me is they removed the door handles and locks and went with poppers, I can live with it though.

anyway, part of me thinks it could be a good rolling project of it’s clean underneath, but part of me thinks it’s gonna be a basket case .

checkout the pics and let me know what you think.

Does this 20 footer run drive and pass a safety inspection?

A careful inspection of floor pans, wheel wells, cowl, torque boxes, and shock towers for extent of rust damage is important.
As long as those parts aren't rotted then its close to the price tag of 8500 as a driver.

20 feet is generous. I have a video of it running but still gathering details. The car is about 2 hours from me so I’ve not seen it yet.

It looks like a fairly fresh repaint? I wouldn’t buy it unless they had detailed pictures of the process. That paint job look to be hiding a lot.

That’s my worry. Just walking through it in my head, it’ll need a new paint job at bare minimum. It needs rust removed in at least half a dozen spots and some of them look to need metal work. Then I’d want to add the mirrors and handles/locks back to it. At this point I’ve nearly done a bare metal paint job. So, my mind set is if they prepped it right the first time it wouldn’t have these issues... and if this was done poorly what else was.
I’m thinking it’s too many negatives.

Almost every old used mustang has some stupid chit and rust that needs fixing.

Thinking for a coupe to be worth 8.5k it needs aforementioned spots to be solid and run and drive.
If those spots compromised then only worth 2 - 3k

Ok. Then let’s maybe change the direction of the conversation a little. I like coupes , and want one. What would 8-10k get me as far as a 67-68 coupe ? Prices are all over the road online .

You can get a real nice one for that price (runs, solid chassis and tired paint) but it comes down to YOU inspecting critical areas for the rust worm.
People are emotional and think there rust bucket is a cherry expensive restoration because they bought a couple of scott drake pieces for it.

Unless there was something special about that car that you really liked I'd stay away from it.

Coupes are going up in value, but I think you should be able to get a pretty decent driver for 8-10K. Maybe we should start another whats it worth thread for these cars.....

I’ve decided to pass unless I get it crazy cheap or something. It’s best for me to take the time to decide what exactly I want out of a classic and go from there.

What would a responsible price a nice 67 v8 coupe be? Running, driving and good paint. Watching online and it’s hard to gauge the prices. I’d guess 12-15k, but I see a lot of crap at that price and well above it but no clue what actually sells.

Also, I know I’d like to have a manual but it seems pretty rare to find one. Does that seem right?
