Recently built a 302 for my Fox. Completely rebuilt. First time we fired it up, no oil was burning. When we hooked up exhaust, it started to profusely burn oil from the tailpipes. I think that the exhaust (which is brand new) is the culprit. Would there be oil left inside the exhaust system from manufacturing? Or are the band clamps (which I'm pretty sure have rubber on them somewhere) causing some issues? Please help!

did it stop after warm up? if theres oil in the exhaust it wont be for long. have you pulled any plugs to see if they're oil fouled? Theres a lot of places the oil can come from. valve seals, did you stagger the ring gaps? how long has it been run? rings seated? theres lots of places it could come from.

Thanks for the help! It kept smoking for about 30 seconds after shut off. Haven't pulled plugs. (at summer school right now, cant get to the car for a few hours. The car has run for less than 3 minutes in total. Rings should be properly seated, they are staggered

I agree on the over reacting. Everything I ever put back together has an initial burn off. It's just part of the process. If it doesn't stop, then worry about it.

Ok. We do have another issue though. We drove it down the block, and it started smoking under the hood profusely. We had repainted the block. I asked my dad if he thought that it could be the fresh paint baking off, and he said no.
We have a couple more big problems. When in park or drive, the car rolls freely as if it was in neutral. When under power, it feels about as fast as my mom's subaru outback... When my dad put the new torque converter in, he pulled it and the trans to the block using the bolts, because he can't read instructions. We both believe that something is seriously screwed up with the trans

In drive the car will roll...they all will however....the parking pawl isn't engaging. On an AOD not sure if you can get to it in the pan or not. Could be a linkage adjustment too. The shifter may say park...but the transmission lever may not be in park.
