cam dowel pin?

i am installing a new cam this week and just pulled my tfs stg1. well i was comparing the 2 and noticed that the dowel pin in the new comp cam wasn't inserted as far as the tfs. i have repeatedly tapped with a hammer and it is still about a 1/4" higher than the tfs? it doesn't feel like it's gonna come out. is this normal?
thanks

Just make sure the new pin does not interfere with the washer from the cam bolt, if it does you will have to grind the pin down.

There are normally 2 different length pins sent with the cam, the shorter one is the one to use on any late model ford.

both of the pins were the same length? and i hadn't done cam swap in a ford before so i was unsure. i was thinking about just taking the cutoff wheel and cut a little off of the dowel. it's in there all right. i'll see when my new timming gear and chain comes.
thanks

I've seen the two different length pins come with cams before as well.

I think its a throw back to the days when an extra part was bolted on the front of the cam to drive a mechanical fuel pump thus needing the extra long pin.
