Can't remove tri-ax

I was trying to change back to my OEM shifter and I went to take off my tri-ax off and it will not come off. I had Ford do the TSB for the tranny and they put the tri-ax back on for me, what the hell did they use to seal it back up?

I've tried everything I can think of trying to pull it off. I know when I pulled my stock shifter off it came off pretty easy. Any way I try to pull it off the whole tranny would move.

Any ideas on getting it off? (Yes, the bolts are removd)

You could try using some kind of heat around where they used some kind of sealant.

I'm not sure that would help because the tranny/shifter gets pretty hot as it is. If heat was the solution I'd think that the "glue" would be loose by now.

i had to literally stand outside my car and rip my stock one out

they seal it up with RTV usually

I used RTV blue when I installed it. I guess I'll just have to get out and crank down on it to break the seal.

i used a flathead screwdriver to break the seal last time i had to take one out.

just keep at it, i had a similar problem and i literally pulled on it for hours, but i finally got it a little loose, and then it came all the way off. good luck

keep on moving it back and forth.. It should eventually break free.

Put on a full face he lmet and yank that sucker out(Yep I damm near knocked myself out last time lol.)

Try removing the bolts first.

Just keep pulling on it like everyone says. My stock one was on there very tightly.

The heat has probably sealed that sucker on pretty good. I wacked mine with a hammer and a piece of wood before it finally gave way.

It's weird for me to hear all these stories of how difficult it was to remove the stock shifter.


Mine was so simple, it took only a few pushes back and forth and it broke lose in like 30 seconds.

Just make sure you use a strong screwdriver, you don't the tip breaking off and flying into the shifter opening

yup mine was a beast too. I think i actually came up from the bottom if i remember correctly.
Eitherway it took a peice of wood and rubber mallet.
Wuld be interested to get my UPR off. I used some RTV and a homemade hightemp silicone gasket. No noise no heat transfer but it will probabaly be on for life.

Just keep whacking it!

I got it off the tranny! I had to yank really hard (while standing outside the car) from the passenger side before it came off.

I'm putting the OEM back on so I can get some warranty work done.
