Cheap ways to lower...

Don't go there - springs/shocks are designed to work together. Putting springs with too little spring rate (4 cyl) , or mismatching spring rate and shocks (you increase spring rate when you cut coils off) is asking for trouble both with ride quality, but more importantly in the handling area. If you're gonna lower, save a bit longer and do it correctly; with properly matched springs/shocks/struts.

I have always heard never to cut the factory springs that it would ride like crap. I got my car lowered about 1.5 inches in 1990 by having the springs cut. It looked great a felt the same as stock. I drove it this way until last spring when I bought new shocks, struts and eibach sportline springs due to having 138k on the stock ones. The car is only about 1/4 inch lower now and the ride is much worse than with the factory springs that were cut. I say go with the factory springs cut if you want to get out cheap.
