So I have a older style factory starter that I upgraded to a mini-starter. From what I can tell with a thread gauge it’s a M6 with a 1.25 thread pitch.

I gave up because I screwed it up....
The #12-24 bolt threaded right in so I purchased one thinking I had solved it.. I was wrong, after I snugged up the screw, it kept on turning.. I screwed up the threads.... Just decided to walk away from it for now........
None of the metric screws would thread on...
The General might be right about it being fine thread.... I have some 1/4"-28 bolts and some 1/4"-20 thread cutting bolts coming...
What a cluster fk over a fkn bolt.......

Thank you for the help... As I said in the above post though, I could not get any metrics to thread.. Every bolt I tried would stop threading at about half a turn, until the #12-24 screw........
I did write down the metric bolt size you gave me.... I might pick one up..... Thanks again....

Dan02GT, I think you might be correct, unfortunately M6 with a 1.25 pitch are really hard to find... My Local Ace hardware store, which has two full aisles of fasteners, only had M6 in 1.00 pitch...... Then I spent some time online,, and never did find one that was appx 13MM long.......
I bought a M6-1.00 pitch and it was really close, which makes me think the 1.25 might be correct.....

In the meantime my 1/4"-20 thread cutters showed up and I decided to try it...... Worked great... Problem solved..
If anyone wants one or two of these thread cutters send me a PM and I will put em in the mail to you.... Had to buy a box of them...
thank you everyone......

The tab is there for you to use if you need it
With it, you can force and hold the cable at 90 degrees if you need to, for headers or whatever reason
However
That cable is wrong for your old starter application
Those old ones never used the tab

That old starter has a American bolt
I/ll find one in my selection and post a picture
It's a coarse thread 1/4 inch thread I believe

The bottom bolt with the 3/8 head
The other one is a common body bolt with a bigger 7/16 head you could also use, and be close to factory

Thanks for the explanation on the tab..... I like to put things back together the way they are supposed to go, unfortunately this part of the job didn't quite go that way......Not sure what happened to the original bolt.. Part of the car was taken apart before I got it........
Here is the cable I used from LMR..

So a fitting end to this story..... After installing the engine/trans ( other post) I decided to spend the morning going through my parts and consolidating what I have and what I will NOT need to use....
Look what I found........
