Cylinder head casting numbers?

Is there a way to tell what heads are on my car without removing the valve covers? The previous owner installed a GT40 intake so I'm wondering if he did the GT40 heads as well. If you have to remove the VCs, what am I looking for to tell what heads I have?

The GT 40 heads will have 3 bars cast into the end of the heads. GT40P heads will have 4 bars with a similar arrangement. I believe the heads should say GT or GTP inside the valve covers.

Is that the side of the head facing the front of the car or the firewall?

the side facing forward will have 3 vertical bars on them, my old P heads that I sold to slow95GT on here said GT40P ontop of the head under the VC, and had 4 vertical bars on the front of them.
