86 foxbody T-top my first car so be patient with me please, I took the bulb out and probed where the bulb goes with (not sure what its called) voltage probe and nothing. Not sure how to test the map light but where do I start to get them working. Could I just buy a new assembly for each? Thanks.

I think the headlight switch is the push/pull type so if you turn the knob one way and the other it will regulate the dash light brightness, if turned completely it should turn the interior lights on.
If you are inexperienced in the mechanical department, and I gather you are, search Google for an assembly manual from Ford for your year stang, not a chilton or a haynes manual, a Ford assembly/repair manual.
You'll thank me later.

Knob is full brightness as I can see my gauge cluster lighting up nice and bright after I did the LED upgrade. What good can that assembly manual do?

Yeah, I guess calling them an 'assembly manual ' is kinda misleading, it will tell you how things work and how to take them apart and put back together and diagnosis problems.

My map light did not work when I got my car. I dissasembled it and reflowed some solder. It’s been a few years so I don’t remember exactly, but I’m sure you can find a thread or video.

I have an ‘86, and I find the Ford factory shop manual set to be very useful in learning how things are installed/routed/etc. They can be found on eBay for not a lot of $.
