If I probe the shaft where the seal is with a stethoscope I can hear some banging and a little metallic sound, also if i grab the d/s there and go up and down there seems to be an excess of play,is there a bearing right behind the seal,if so anyone know where I can get one at,dealer item?

You'll have to pull the tailshaft off the tranny frist, I'm pretty sure, but your right, it could be the bushing/berring. It could be other things, might want to check on that first.

There is a bushing in there... The bushing is tapped or pressed out and pressed in using some locktite sleeve retainer. Make sure that the hole in the sleeve/bushing lines up with the groove in the tailshaft housing. The tailshaft housing tapers on the inside so tap or press it out with the rear end of the tailshaft is pointed up. Try a punch and hammer and use the groove to get it centered. It can be your yoke too..
