First a little history.
Most of you here don’t know me , but I’ve been a longtime StangNet member since 1999. I currently own a 1999 Limited Edition GT since Sept 1999 and it has 94,500 miles and has been a solid performer since day one. I am also a mod on the 35th Limited Edition forums. The other mustang in my stable is a 1966 Fastback 289 2v in Raven Black my parents bought new in November 1965. It was a daily driver until 1985 and due to a slipping tranny was parked. My father used great wisdom not letting myself or brother near the car during our teen years. It sat neglected in the barn covered and seemingly forgotten.
Since I could not use this mustang as a project, I purchased a 1969 Winter Blue Sportsroof 351 2v in 1992 and I was 21 yrs old by this time. I drove it for about 4-5 years and then partially dismantled it for whatever reason. And then it sat for 4 years. I met my future wife in 1999 and I sold the 1969 in 2000 for funds to build a house.
Time passed and I’d go to the barn and look at the old pony and make promises to get to it. We’d occasionally fire it up to make sure it still ran and it did, but rather poorly as you can imagine. More years passed and now I had just passed my 47th bday in 2018. Time does indeed fly.
So I discussed with my wife the idea of getting it restored, she was a firm supporter and I proceeded with plans and began talking to a restorer.
However, tragedy struck Mid June 2018 and my wife suffered a fatal heart attack and passed at age 47. Everything stopped. Everything.
She was my world, my best friend. All that changed suddenly.
After months of finalizing her estate, I realized life is short and touched base with the restorer I had dealt with. He knew my situation and we began the work to make it happen.
I learned quickly that life doesn’t wait, it rolls on. We should too. Don’t put aside things you want to do until tomorrow as we are not guaranteed that sunrise.
With that I will just say that I will do my best to update the progress and post pic as much as I can.

Thanks, Jason

It’s been a while, but we finally got the old girl in progress. Restoration Started July 1st, 2020. Engine and trans are out for rebuild no major rust was found, frames rails and floor were perfect. Rear quarters required a bit of work but were completely salvagable.
Trunk lid And hood were replaced.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your wife, so sad. I think that having something to focus on also helps people heal. Your car is looking great.

I share the same perspective as you. In 2007 I bought a 1965 2+2 and started stripping it down. I started with a 6 cyl T code b/c I wanted to make it "mine" and did not want to de-value a K, A or C code car. As that was happening my kids started getting busier thus more and more the car was relegated to the "back burner". Both of my kids ended up being strong athletes and the finances pretty much deflected fully to supporting their athletics so the car basically sat. Every now and then I would roll it out of the garage and work on it for an hour here and an hour there. Sometimes more but for long stretches.....nothing.
One winter I was able to build the motor and get that ready. So fast forward to 2020 and CV-19 and all the other crap the world is going through. I am now 55 and have had a few friends suffer health issues which put a lot of things into perspective. Because sports have been basically sidelined with CV-19 it has saved me a lot of money and freed up time so given what I have seen with friends I said f*ck it, I'm getting this done. So from 2007 to now it has been a WIP with some years making progress and other years collecting dust. Two weeks ago I dropped it off for paint and will be ordering a full interior kit to redo all that when I get it back. My hope is to have it back on the road for this summer.

Partial list of what I have done since 2007:

Stripped car to bare metal – by hand
Cut out the old and welded brand new quarter panels (old ones were too far damaged)
New rear valance welded in
New Dynacorn doors
Front fenders are factory with typical small rust repaired at bottom
New floor pan either side (factory tunnel)
New seat risers
Undercarriage stripped and restored
New American Autowire wiring harness throughout
Front drum brakes converted to disc
Shelby FG R type front valance
Shelby FG hood
"Shelby Drop" done on front suspension A-arms
Rear leaf springs are mid-eye
All old suspension removed and replaced with V8 running gear w/HD sway bar
Hi-Po 302 V8 originally from an ’88 GT. Torn down and rebuilt by my son and I
Tremec 5 spd transmission
Rear will be 3:55 posi on a later project

I look forward to seeing yours complete. Congratulations.
