Looking at the NPD catalog and a few other suppliers, and they are showing that a 68 390GT can could have either 1 3/4" rear drums or 2"

Took my drums off today and to my surprise, my drums measured at 2" braking surface and my shoes measure at 1 3/4" wide. So I panicked thinking something is really screwed up.

Then I read this: "1 3/4" system will have a 2" braking surface on inside of drum.

2" System will have 2 3/8-7/16 " braking surface"

If this is true, then I have a 1 3/4" rear brakes. Why are suppliers listing 2" rear drums for my car, and should I have 2" instead of 1 3/4" ?

CONFUSED!!!!!

If I remember from my days working at Midas in the mid 70s, Sounds like you have the 1 3/4 system. I believe you would order by size of the shoe (not the drums actual surface) so you would order the 1 3/4 system but you would actually get a drum with the 2" braking surface.
Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong, It has been a long time since those days.
