I kept hearing a chripping sound that resulted in a little surge. Then yesterday when I drove home I smelled something burning. I opened the hood and smoke was coming from the A/C pump. The clutch was fried.

Can this be rebuilt?
How much will it cost?
Can I do it?
How much are the parts?

And no I don't want to delete it. Black car, black int.

You can just replace the clutch. Hopefully the compressor isn't siezed. This happened exactly to my old cheby truck. Check autozone for the part. I think it's pressed on. I removed mine with a hammer.

At least I'm not the only one who's had this problem. Mine actually caught fire before it seized. I ended up getting one from Mustang Parts Specialties (formerly stangparts.com, now www.mpsautosalvage.com) for like $80 I believe. It's really easy to just replace the entire compressor, so that's the route I went when I needed to.
