I go to school full time and work 30 hrs. Fri. - Sun. at a convenience store. I usually don't cut gas pumps on after dark unless pre-paid (marked on pumps), but about closing time a a man pulled up in his 50's, maybe early 60's, and stood there. I cut the pump on and went into the parking lot to pick up trash and let him know that I was watching him.
Another customer pulled in, (11:30 at night...closing time), so I went in. As soon as I gave him his change I looked up to see this "respectable" gent peeling out backwards so I couldn't get his tag # and spinning tires to do a drive off!!!!!! I should've locked the door and chased him but I was in shock that a person of that generation would pull such crap!
The cops did nothing. I've lost all faith in human morality. I paid the $36.51 out of my pocket.<a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxdm117AAUS%2526i%253D36%252F36%255F1%255F46%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_46.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D36%252F36_1_46/image.gif"></a>

My experience says your faith will be restored. What year and style are you involved with? I have parts you may be looking for and my daughters and I are coming to the Camp Lejune area in October to help their brother decompress from another trip abroad. Maybe something I have to spare could take the edge off your loss, and your anger.Seriously.....716-628-4058 or here.

I have a 67 coupe. The only thing I'm not decided on yet is the doors which are rusted in the usual spots. If the bottoms aren't too bad, I'll probably reskin. A search for the perfect used doors is rediculous and the repros require transfer of everyhting from the old ones.:(
Thx for the offer and I'm sure you're right about having faith in people; it has made me look at everybody differently for now at least.

We are living in that age of reverse Darwinism. Yes, it is the several of the weakest where the strong take care of the weak in spite of there own behavior. The weak and nonproductive breed at an alarming rate while the productive are taxed to the point they can only afore to maintain there lifestyle and provide for one or at most two off spring. As the people on the brink give in and become a member of the nonproductive the line moves higher and higher forcing the productive to pay more and more and live on less. As the government takes a larger role in personal lives it erodes personal responsibility to the point that crime is the rule not the exception. IMHO, this is how that great American experiment ends. :(

You don’t understand that guy was entitled to that gas who are to attack his good name. :bang:

Don't go risking your life over a tank of gas. You don't get paid enough.

A couple years ago up here a gas jockey tried to stop a gas 'n dash and was run over by the teenage driver of the stolen car. He was stuck under the car and dragged for 11 kilometers. The driver said he could here him screaming through the floor and kept driving till the screaming stopped. The poor bastard was ground down to an unrecognizable pile of red clothes and flesh. There was about a two foot wide red streak starting from the gas station to where the car finally stopped.

So don't sweat it, it's not your gas and your employer shouldn't make you pay for it!

I was wondering about that too.

I usually call people as I see them. Age has nothing to do with whether or not someone is an ***hole. Some older people are very respectable people that can teach you somethings, and others are arrogant b*st*rds that think they know everything and everyone owes them respect for not dying past a certain age. Good and bad stereotypes do exist for reasons, but just remember they're not always applicable.

If I had thought quick enough to lock the door, I would've chased him down; for the tag no., if nothing else. I agree that getting into a shootout over a tank of gas is not worth it though.
Convenience stores usually have a policy of the cashier paying not only for gas drive-offs, but also any shortages from the register. I can control the register but the drive-off is almost impossible to stop beacuse you can't chase people down when you have customers in the store.
Some very interesting comments about our current status. I have to agree That the USA has already seen it's best days.
