Gas mileage on a 68 stangs' 289ci 4.7 liter v8?

Just curious....I know it's bad but just want to know how bad.

I WAS getting about 16 out of my 65. Its got a small cam, intake, JBA shortys, and a 4spd. Maybe this will help some.

my 289 4 bbl. automatic, electronic ignition, cheepie headers with duals , did 20 if you were easy on the highway...

Same here, my '68 got 20mpg when it was stock.

My stock 68 289 2-Barrel, 3-Speed coupe would get 25 mpg on the highway. That was back before the speed limits went up. It amazed me that I got such good milage. I guess it shows what a proper state of tune can do for a stock engine. The 2.79 gears didn't hurt either.

I haven't checked my milage since I have been modifying things. I just added a 5 speed a couple of weekends ago--that should help.

I got anywhere from 20-25mpg when I had a stock C code 289 and 3 speed with 2.79 rear end. Thats highway mileage though, I can't say its anywhere near that when I was on sidestreets blasting around

my 351w gets 17 freeway with 3.25 gears, exhaust, and 4 bbl if i cruise along at 65. city... eh... don't ask

if you get a transmission with overdrive though, all the old SBFs will get over 20 mpg if driven reasonably.

the old engine combo in my 66 got 17-19 city and 25 hwy. 289 with viking 100h cam from sig erson, stock 68 4bbl intake with 4100 autolite carb, and small tube headers with 2 1/4" duals. spd trans with 2.80 gears.

You learn to carry 2.5 gallon can in the car and AAA at all times, (plus my gas gauge hasnt worked for about 2 years )

Actually its not that bad, but like i said i cant tell because the gauge.

Like others, my mostly stock 289 (2bbl, headers) got about 20 on the freeway. Around town it got about 8.

I think mine gets about 20 light poles to the gallon.
