A 87 Grand National will not beat any stock stang to date...they are mid 14 second cars that cross the line around 98mph...they make 355lbs of torque at 2000 rpm ...245hp...
You have to look at the Grand National in a different way...you can't look at it like some of the younger ones do at ricers looking for something flashy...which will make you think the Grand National is ugly...you have to go back in time a bit and know it is all business and a great sleeper

I was like "WTF?" then after we slowed down i looked at his car and it had a badge on the side that said "Intercooled" then I remember my dad saying something about a Buick Grand National made during the 80s that was real fast. It was embarrasing to say the least , what kind of motor do those have?
They made a Buick that was faster then the GN,and the GNX,,it was in 1970,Buick GSX stage 1. It was a 455 that had 510 pounds of torque from the factory A real torque monster.5.0stangette said:even i know about them and i'm a 17 year old girl. i did find it hard to believe a buick could be that fast though...until i rode in one
and i whole heartedly agree w/ 17y/ostanger...i think it's probably one of the ugliest cars out there but looks aren't everything when it comes to cars

I realize that it’s the upscale version of the car and had a few power enhancements, but I recall most of the upgrades being concentrated on the suspension tuning and badgeing. I remember the actual production models being faster, but not much faster than the base GN. If memory recalls, most of the hype over the GNX was based on their collect ability, not so much with their performance.

Normally I'd agree, but in this case, those old GSX's used to haul tail! They acutually used to trap in the 105-106mph range and run low-13's. Neither car's stock time is considered a showstoper by todays standards, but in the '80's, low-13's out of a stock american built car was very rare and in the late '60's, it was nearly unheard of!5spd GT said:That 455 isn't faster than the GNX...it traps like 101-102mph...because the lack of efficiency of those year model cars (muscle car era)...are usually slower even with more power or torque.
