i have this on my car you will have issues with non gt40p headers. you will have to use 90 degree angle plug wire and use a hammer and bend the left rear header tube. or you can buy pricer gt40p spicefic headers. i hope you got the head from tri state they have big valves
Big valves doesn't necessarily mean big flow. They used a smaller exhaust valve in the GT40P over the standard GT40 and had increased flow over the larger valve. There's quite a few members running the P heads though, so I'll let them chime in with their experiences.
Regular GT40's or P's? Regular gt40s came in 5.0 explorers/mountaineers made prior to mid-97 i believe, anything afterwards would be a P head. You can use standard 5.0 shorties on regular gt40s with no issues.
I have a set of GT40P heads with the factory headers for sale. I also have the GT40 intake out of the same truck. Both are out of a 98 explorer with 73,000 miles. Shoot me an offer.
yep regular 302 headers will bolt up to any aftermarket/ford head (afr, edel, tfs, gt40 ect)
the reason people run P specific headers is they have a different placement of the sparkplug and on the #7 primary it comes kinda close. but all you need is 90 degree plug boots and youll be fine
