How to tell if 9" axle is small or large bearing?

Is there any way to tell other than measuring the size of the bearings?

MY 1970 Grande came with a factory 28 spline 9". I'm guessing it's the small bearing 9", but would like to know for sure before ordering parts.

Can anyone tell me the size of the small and large bearings?

If it's a '70 Grande, then your car should have a small bearing rear end. Easiest way to tell is by the 4 T-bolts that holds the drum backing plates onto the housing's end flanges.

If the T-bolts are 3/8" diameter (requires a 9/16" socket to remove the nuts), then it's a small bearing housing.

If the T-bolts are 1/2" diameter (requires a 3/4" socket to remove the nuts), then it's a large bearing housing.
