I was eating a burger at Mc D's on MD Rt3 in Crofton Md the other night and noticed all these hopped up cars pulling trailers heading north. I soon discovered I was witnessing a traveling portion of the Hotrod Drag Week It was pretty cool seeing them all go by. The event entails a weeks worth of drag racing at a different track each day. The kicker is participants cannot trailer their cars. They are also not allowed to have a support vehicle follow them. They must move from track to track (hundreds of miles on some segments) under their own power and carry or haul all of their own supporting equipment. The 400 spot participant limit was sold out in 7 mins online.

Here is a YouTube line up of the daily events. Two of these tracks are in my neck of the woods. I've been to MIR several times as a spectator. I've been to Cecil County Dragway twice as a racer and on one of those events won a trophy for top eliminator in our 73 Stingray (sold long ago)

Alot of great action in these vids including many Foxbody cars obviously. You'll notice trailer hitches on some of these cars as they stage up for runs >>> https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=hot+rod+drag+week+2019+

I was going to hit drag week last year, since it was in the southeast. However I didn’t get my car done in time since I wasted 3 months getting my headers from Mac.

I would like to participate in the "near" future. It's a really cool event. There are different awards for how "street" your car is. There is an award for the fastest car without a trailer. A station wagon usually wins that one. You can also voluntarily allow them to put a tamper proof seal on your hood. If you make it through the whole week without lifting the hood, you get an award.

I did not make it this year but I went down with a buddy to spectate at Atco on day three. It is an awesome event, if you have a fast streetcar it doesnt get much better than that event. There are also lots of offshoot events popping up all over the country. Summit is doing the midwest drags next year, which will start in Norwalk, OH next year, in the beginning of June. I am going to try to get to that one next year instead of dragweek, it looks like it is going to be a more tight knit, hardcore group of cars, kinda how dragweek was when i started doing it.

Here are a couple videos from my car on dragweek for anyone interested.

That's awesome man. Damn good driving on the track.

Drag week reminds me of a car show over in Copenhagen I went to last month, with the cars hauling trailers. Although over there they don't mess around with the little ones.

My buddy's 62 cadillac:

There were 1400 cars total, pretty much all with good sized trailers. I was too drunk to remember to take more though lol.

Can you swap rear gears during the event? I’m wondering if people who run Ford 9” could bring an extra setup carrier along for the trip.

There is no limit to what can be swapped out for the drive but usually the drives take 8-10 hours, and with over 300 entries at the event it makes something like that a pretty bad idea. You really need to be able to turn the car around in 1 hour if you dont want to be up till 2am every day. I have heard of a couple guys doing that, and it is usually their first year and they learn quick how serious the drives are.
