I sold my 96 GT over 3 years ago, and have regretted it ever since. Somehow I found my wife and she still wanted to marry me even without the Mustang....
I have been driving a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2 since then. My wife's parents live close to the people that I sold my 96 GT to, and so occasionally we would drive by and see my old car sitting in their driveway. Well, a few days ago we were driving down that same road again, and I saw a for sale sign in my old car! I could get it back! We pulled over and looked it over. On the outside it was almost the same, except for on the driver's side where the owner's brother scraped the door and rear quarter panel with a 5th wheel trailer. There isn't any real dent, and the scrape does not go down to the metal, but it is still there. It could look a lot better with some rubbing compound, but that is not a deal breaker. Anyway, we took it for a test drive and I miss it. It is so fast! The AC does not work, (hole in one of the lines), the speedometer does not always pick up the speed (it did after 50mph), and it has 145k miles on it now.
The owner wants $4400, KBB puts fair price at around $3300. (I sold it to him for $7500 by the way) I said I could do something around $3000 but he did not seem too excited by that I would love to have my mustang back, but the owner over the last few years was not as good to it as I would have been. I am sure he drove it in a way that it should not have been driven.
I would like to have it back, but am I better off just waiting until I can get a nice 96-98 with low miles and do all the work to it again? Or should I get back into it for sentimental reasons?
For reference, these are the mods and work I did:
Full PI swap
LTs and full exhaust
4.10s
U/D Pullies
KN FIPK Intake
Plenum
Throttle Body
Mach 1 springs and struts
Short shifter (that still feels so nice and tight)
What do you all think?
