93 LX Coupe Searching for idle and smell of raw gas

I bought this car one year ago and I'm now just starting to work on it. It has a 303 cam, Moates chip, and an intake off an Explorer. The bottom end and injectors are original. It searches for idle and has a strong smell of raw gas. Runs good otherwise. Could it be the tune or a sensor? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Start here:
run the codes and a cylinder balance test- if no codes

check all vacuum lines
check fuel lines
check cannister lines and solenoid
check the IAC
Check the TPS
Do a base idle reset

Moates isn't a chip- it is a piggy back tuner
What 303 cam- b,e,f,x?
stock heads?
Is your smog equipment. cats still on?

You guys with idle/stall problems could save a lot of time chasing your tails if you would go through the Surging Idle Checklist. Over 50 different people contributed information to it. The first two posts have all the fixes, and steps through the how to find and fix your idle problems without spending a lot of time and money. It includes how to dump the computer codes quickly and simply as one of the first steps. I continue to update it as more people post fixes or ask questions.
