lower control arm bushings

Has anyone changed their lower control arm bushings? I'm in the middle of an energy suspension upgrade, and was wondering how the hell you pop the old bushing out of the lower arm? Any ideas? thanks, Jeff

They have to be pressed or burned out.

I took mine to a Suspension shop to have them pressed out. Make sure You dont take them to a car quest or pepboys. i took mine to car quest and they bent the hell out of my lower control arm and my new bushing.

When you ordered the bushings did you receive the metal sleeve as well? I've noticed some places don't offer the metal sleeve and I definately need new sleeves. For example, PST says "reuse your old sleeves" yet, from what it looks like, they also sell the whole control arm with bushings already pressed in in their "Poly. Front End Kit". Is there anywhere that sells the whole sleeve&poly.bushing w/o the control arm?

Cool wheels-Pst does sell there bushings with the metal sleaves. its the older mustangs that you have to re use the metal sleaves. If you look closely in the pst catalog there is a side note that states that the 74-78 comes with metal sleaves

got them out guys, took them to work and the 130 ton press made quick work of them! My rebuild kit is from PST and they do have the sleaves on them. thanks all, Jeff

I borrowed an air chisel, it made quick work of taking the bushing shell out, and it did not harm it. I used to work at Canadian Tire (Americans read Autozone) and I know the parts manager so, I snuk in and used their press to press the new bushing in.

That's awesome! I was waiting for finances to get their whole front end kit but apparantly don't need it. This will save me some bucks. Thanks for the info.
