Im wondering Blown88GT if my mystery sensor is a replacement sensor for a 94-95 GT in the 70mm housing? If so then the check engine light should stay off (theoretically). I have no codes running or stored with the mystery sensor and 70mm housing.I am unable to identify your housing. I found a similar one on eBay. Seller says:
Stock Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Replacement to suit the following vehicles:
If true, housing & sensor are not compatible with your vehicle and/or A9L EEC-IV.
- 1996 Ford Bronco All Models
- 1995 Ford Crown Victoria All Models
- 1996 Ford E Series Van E150 or E250 Models with 4.9L or 5.8L Engine
- 1996 Ford Pick-up Truck F150 – F350 Models with 4.9L 5.0L or 5.8L Engine
- 1997 Ford Pick-up Truck F250 Models with 5.8L Engine
- 1995 Lincoln Towncar All Models
- 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis All Models
BTW, if you need a 55mm housing, I have some spares with no flange, just like yours. I got them from a salvage yard a long time ago. If interested, start a conversation (PM).
If so, then you would need a T4M0 or J4J1 ECU.M

And this is why I want to put a stock 55mm MAF & housing back on it.If so, then you would need a T4M0 or J4J1 ECU.
It appears that the previous owner's didn't know what they were doing.
I would ditch the MAF & housing & get something that will work properly.
Why do you think it is that sensor? The mystery sensor is a 94-95 Cougar/Thunderbird sensor. 70mm, and part number on the sensor (if it was OEM) would be F4SF-12B579-AA
Thanks so much Mustang5L5 for clearing up the mystery of the mystery housing lol! I will try to get me a F2Vxxx... Sensor for the 70mm housing hopefully that will fix my issue of it feeling flat in the upper rpms. I still don't understand why the stock 55mm housing and sensor makes the CEL come on. I will definitely try the 55mm setup (to get the codes) again as soon as the weather around here warms up and decides to quit trying to snow. The mystery sensor is a 94-95 Cougar/Thunderbird sensor. 70mm, and part number on the sensor (if it was OEM) would be F4SF-12B579-AA

This sensor is NOT compatible with the A9x ECU. It would probably communicate with the ECU, but the values won't translate properly. I could see why the previous owner selected it though, as the 70mm housing used with it directly fits the 87-93 intake duct work. If you look at a 94-95 Mustang MAF, you need to purchase an adapter as the MAF has a 4-bolt interface to the filter housing.
The sensor electronics that do work with the A9X processor have the part number F2VF-12B579-A2A. I do not know if the electronics will work when bolted to the cougar/tbird housing, but looking at pictures online, the two housings look identical other than the MAF housing style (couplings on both flanges, vs a bolt on MAF). I'd almost be willing to ber if you put a F2VF-12B579-A2A electronics on it, it may actually work properly.
Of course, who's to say that's not what the original owner did, but without a ford factory p/n to confirm, I wouldn't trust it.
If you hope on ebay and search F2VF-12B579-A2A, you'll find a few electronics sets for under $20
94-95 Cougar/tbird MAF housing, 70mm, F4SF-12B579-AA
Vs 94-95 Mustang MAF housing, 70mm, F2VF-12B579-A2A
Studying the various pics online, it appears internally they have the same build structure, so the housings may be interchangeable. I cannot confirm this though
