I threw my brains at my mirrors today, the driver's side mirror had the dreaded wobble really bad and the passenger side had a bit of a wiggle.
So, here's the mirror mechanism.
Here's the problem/fix area.
The problem is that the wires used for adjustment stretch over the years and allow the mirror itself to pull slightly away from the pivot base immediately behind the mirror.
The cables run through the spring like guides from the adjuster knob to the pivot base at the back of the mirror. To tighten your mirrors up, go to the control knob side where the three wires attach to the adjustment knob mechanism. You'll see where the guides are crimped. Simply use a small device (like this small screwdriver) to open the crimp. Then pull the guides outward toward the mirror base and recrimp them.
There you go! You're mirrors should feel nice and solid after this.
