hello everybody. i picked up a 1992 convertible over the winter. the engine appears to be 100% stock and has either 112k or 212k miles. it does have racing wires and updated plugs but that appears to be it.

it has been running just fine until recently. today was the worst. it sounds like ticking - maybe a collapsed rocker, idk - but only happens under acceleration. it idles just fine, with no signs or noises that it isn't running correctly.

there are no obvious vacuum leaks. pcv value is in good shape (checked tonight). maf and tb where recently cleaned. new (k&n) stock air filer. new fuel filter.

any ideas?

Need to do some investigating, make sure all the pulleys are in good shape, motor mounts, trans mount. Pull valve covers and check rocker arms. Maybe first do a compression check. Check header gaskets.

If the suspected “ticking” noise is noticeable mainly while accelerating, look for an exhaust leak. Exhaust leaks, especially ones closer to the engine can fool you because they sound like a loose rocker arm
