My Turbo 08 got hit...

... and now I can't sit.

This just happened 2 hours ago as it still rains outside. I was dead stopped at a red light with a van about 10 ft in front of me.

I look in the rear view and see a Ford FOCKUS movin in on me pretty fast. When I noticed the car it was still doing about 35 mph @ 7 cars in between us. The brakes locked, in the wet with some leaves under her right tire. At that moment I already knew I was gonna take a pounding in the rear.

The best I could do in a sitting duck position was brace myslelf to the steering wheel and push down on the brake as hard as I could so I could avoid hitting the van in front of me. Didn't happen.

When her car made contact with mine she was still at about 20 mph. Looking in the rear view I just see my trunk open really fast as my eyes are suddenly taken away from the mirror. This is the part when I got a quick glimpse of the cieling from my body being pushed forward so quickly from a dead stop.

With my brakes pressed firmly my car still slid about 10 ft and taped the van in front of me. Having my brakes jammed saved the intercooler, plumbing and turbo. The trade off was that the whole rear got pushed in.

She struck me hard enough that both quarter panels are bent under the windows. Wheel wells have about an inch from the tire. Exhaust ist ok since her car slid up into the tail lights. Driver door grinds as I open it.

I get out of my car and tell the lady in a nasty tone "you better have insurance" I WAS PISSED. The first thing she said was yes I have insurance and it's my fault. After that I calmed down and got on the cell to call 911.

What's important is that no one got hurt. The part that sucks is that the car will never drive the same. It only had 7,500 miles on the clock!

Didn't want to wait for a tow truck. It was about 1 mile from home so I drove. I even went into boost a bit just to see the trunk try and go down lol. As I pulled into the driveway it started to make funny noises in the rear. It's getting towed to the shop later today.

Damn man. That really sucks.

For future reference, it's better to keep your body loose than stiffen up. Especially in a car with airbags. That's why drunk drivers are far more likely to survive a crash than a sober person in the same crash.
 
Al Guapo, glad you're OK. Sorry about the car. Just makes me ill to see such a nice car damaged like that.

So many drivers just don't pay attention these days. Makes me wonder what the girl who hit you was doing leading up to the accident? Talking, texting, putting on make up, singing along/dancing to the music? I get so frustrated by how little people pay attention these days. When you're in a car driving, you should be 100% focused on: DRIVING.

If they total your GT, I hope it's not too much hassle to swap the turbo and mods over to the next car. If they fix your car, make sure the shop of your choice does the repairs (and to your liking). Best wishes!
 
Th at really sucks, but as long as you aren't hurt you can build another one.

You're right. It's what they taught us in judo as well. My instructor would use the same example you just used, about durnk drivers, to explain the concept of staying loose upon impact. Only problem is that you can't practice with cars lol. When that one time comes that's it!!

I think I would of gotten more hurt if the airbags deployed.

BTW you have the same exact rim and color combo I was going to do with my car. Looks good :nice:

I agree about being 100% focused. If you're in an object that weighs 3000lbs + and can move faster than you can run... PAY ATTENTION. It's literally a weapon.

The body shop is good and it's right next door to my in-law's weld shop. My buddy will do the swap but I still gotta compensate him a bit. Which is still money out of pocket. And I have no insurance gap. It may be a few thousand out of pocket even if they total it. Basically what I'm saying is I've incured large debt for just being at the wrong place at the right time.

I don't remember if I heard that somewhere, or if I came to that conclusion on my own. Another example is crash test dummies. They crash test cars with dummies that can't react or stiffen up. So they aim to keep that dummy safe.

But I get what you're saying completely. It's hard not to tense up. It's a natural reaction. But if you can avoid tensing up, you'll obviously come out better.

That sucks dude. My first new car was t-boned after owning it for six weeks so I was most definitly upside down on it. Luckily I had gap protection on my loan and that experience convinced me to get it on every loan since. Have you considered suing her for the difference? I'm not saying take her to the cleaners or anything but why should you have to take a loss for her neglegense?(SP) I think you are due the difference between what the insurance gives you and blue book value minus the aftermarket stuff.
 
Am i the only one who thinks her head should have a nice imprint of a Focus steering wheel on her forehead for driving like an idiot and hitting your car? :shrug:

Hope for the best for you i remember your thread about putting the Turbo in yoru car and i know you were pleased. I know how it is to have something like that smashed that you work so hard on...

dont sweat the repairs, if its a good shop, they can do it right. i would not be scared to tackle that hit. if you want to sell the car, let me know. :)
 
That does suck!!!!! I felt ill after seeing what little bit of damage happened to my hood from being hit by some plywood on Monday, so I bet I would be sick if that happened to mine! The estimate I got to fix my "oops" on my right 1/4 panel was just north of $900, so I know yours will be pricey. Most of all, glad you're ok even though tensing up. About ten years ago, the car I was in at a stop was hit from behind and like you, I saw it coming and braced myself while my bro-in-law had no idea of what was about to happen. He was unhurt while my ball cap got knocked off my head all the way to the back ledge of a four door Escort and I had a few neck ligaments get stretched. Got some good pain pills out of it:D I went to a lawyer and got medical bills paid, lost wages for just over two weeks and some "pain and suffering" money.

If you look closely at the 1st pic you can see scratches on the lowest part of the bumper. My theory is that the re-enforcement bar deflected the car's impact in an upward motion. I think ford does that intentionally so that the energy can be deflected from the gas tank and absorbed more by the quarters.

Yes the nose was dipped during lock up but... see above^^^

Mine got smashed in IDENTICAL to yours and had it repaired at dealer. Check the muffler mounts out well before taking the car back. Mine cant have mufflers that dont either fall off or rattle like hell. And not quite sure because I never tried launching before that but I think some of my wheel hop maybe due to it. IMO if given the option of a replacement or a payout I'd take all your aftermarket off and start over. Wrecked cars are just never the same.:(
 
hold on to the car bro.. and they shouldn't total it mine took at nice t-bone to the rear passenger quarter and we welded the whole rear frame up still launches a 2.0 60ft with stock wheels and suspension and flys like an arrow at 150+mph just make sure it gets done right..
 
I hit a guard rail and damaged the left quarter panel, door, and fender on my '05 when it was about 7 months old. The repair shop replaced all the panels including the quarter panel (no bondo, patches, or metal fill) and the car looks great and drives just like the day I got it. Execpt for the id plates in the drivers door you can't tell it's been wrecked. They charged the insurance company $13,000 to do the job.

It's been claimed totalled and it'll be picked up some time next week. I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Now I gotta move fast to get all the goodies out.

I start yanking out the parts tomorrow with a friend and hopefully don't run into too many problems. We're aiming to have it done by Sunday. I still haven't figured out how we're gonna get that Kenne Bell BAP in the trunk lol That's to say if it's not damaged!

I will keep the parts for my next project.
