Normal Oil pressure

on cold start up the pressure reads 50-55psi

and at idle around 700rpms once warmed up and drivin alot it sits at 20 on the dot!

then driving with the rpms goes up to about 30-35... just depending on how fast im going...


just wondering if 20 is normal with warm oil?


130,000 on engine and with Auto meter electric gauge

Rule usually is 10psi for every 1000RPM

So with 20psi at idle it's still safe.


On my car, i get 25psi hot idle and 55-60psi on the throttle.

It's still safe but it's definitely on the downside of where it should be. Mine is 70 psi upon cold startups, then goes down to 60 psi when warm. At idle (when hot) it'll go down to 40 psi and then move back up to 60 psi when driving.

once i added my turbo i see about 22 a hot idle. i blame that mainly on the oil going thorugh the turbo and getting just a little bit hotter than it normally would. my buddy who is a ford tech told me the same thing as above, 10 psi for every 1000 rpm

Thats fine...i run about 22-24 psi hot idle. And cruise is between 40-50 depending on speed and load. 60psi on cold startup.

60 at startup
180 degrees and @ around 700rpm is at 40
cruising will usually hang around 55, maybe 50 on real hot days

well i really looked at it today...

hot idle around 27spi

crusing and normal shifting around 35-40psi

and cold start up around 55psi


so i guess about normal

25 hot @ idle, 30-55 while driving it, initial strart up 50-55 and its got about 110,000 miles on orginal 5.0. 1991
