Odd Timing Question

ok, I figured my car would run a little better in the winter time if I put my timing back to stock 10*. but now I'm noticing my car doesn't heat up as fast (like I dont' get hot air from the heater as soon), not to mention the loss of accelleration power... is this all from the timing retardment?

It will affect the accelleration but should not make any difference in how fast the car heats up. What part of the country do you live it. If it is a cold climate, it has been colder than usual this year and this maybe why. Or you could just need a new t-stat. I assume your coolant level has been checked and is fine.

yes, coolant is fine, and I just replaced my 160 thermo w/ a 195... that was a month ago... that alone helped a ton! but I am talking about last week to this week, the only thing I changed was the timing, and I noticed slower heating... (Washington btw.)

Timing wouldn't make any difference in the way the car heats up. In fact, I can run MORE timing in the winter time due to the heavier, denser winter air. I can only run 11* in the summer and can run as high as 19* in the winter, but I usually keep it around 15*.

well, I guess I'll set mine back to where it was, around 12, and just leave it at that...

-btw, I run 14 in the summer... no problem... you must be using low octane gas...

Nope, I always run 93. We have very humid summers, and that screws with everything.

good point... I live in Washington, but it's really not too humid here...
