Oil Change.

Its time for the first oil change in my car. I've had it less than 3 months. It previously had 5w-20 Synthetic. currently at 111,600 miles on my 99 GT 4.6.
Now, my question is, how much oil do I need to buy? I have 5 quarts of 5w-30 part-synthetic and a microguard filter. My friend who is a big mustang guy says his 98 5speed GT takes 6 quarts of oil. But, my friend who sold me the oil at O'rileys has a 95 5.0 drag mustang GT and said his only takes 5. So, how much oil do I need for my 99?

Six quarts for 4.6s. I have 115k on my motor and still run 5w20. Any reason you're stepping up to 5w30?

5w-30 was all that they had at o'rileys, the guy at the counter said it wouldnt hurt to go up 10. Thanks for the answer

During the Summer, but the thinner oil during the winter 5 or 0.

5W20 is fine...5W30 is fine...10W30 is fine

Use a quality oil filter, change often. Don't over think it.

Pretty sure Ford was running 5w-30 until 2000-2001 when they switched to 5w-20. Your owner's manual shows 5w-30 as the recommended viscosity. Not a bad idea to run just slightly thicker oil as the engine gets more mileage.

These engines are sturdy, my dad's 2004 Z71 did not like the 10w-30, knocked loud on start up, during the winter, put 5w-30 in all is good. Oil refining and testing is good reading.

I run 5W 30 engine oil in all my vehicles and never been an issue. Yes, the cap reads 5W 20 but that for government MPG standards and nothing to do with if the thinner pi$$ oil is better for the engines. That 5W 20 weight is like water and only 5W30 will my engines see.
