OKgoing to help friend install Shelby fiberglass shelf and roll bar in 66 fb..help?

All right...this is what I have figured out...

I need to dremmel the the fiberglass rear shelf for the roll cage.....

and...well this is how I was going to attack it...

1. Take out front seats...(do I need to do this to get the shelf into the car)

2. set in roll cage, mark inside of car where roll cage goes

3. take out cage, put in fiberglass rear shelf...

4. use marks on inside to tell where I need to cut the shelf so roll cage will fit in

5. install roll cage

6. install shelf

Is there a better way then this?

I have never done this before, so I was looking for comments from anyone who has...

Thanks again-

You might want to make a full size template out of cardboard or poster board, before you cut into that fiberglass tray. You could piece a full size template together, then just measure, or lay it on top.

You did not mention which rollbar is being installed so I'll assume a correct R-style 4-point bar. You also didn't say which shelf, '66 Shelby style or '65 Shelby style. Yes, seats have to come out. Test fit the shelf to insure it fits properly. The bar then needs to be installed. After bar installation it's a time consuming job or cutting, test fitting, cutting, test fitting the interior rear quarters and shelf. Very helpful also if the rear glass is out.
