power problem

i have a 99 gt and i have been havin trouble with it. It just isnt quickfound out today my alternator wasnt putting out enuf power to charge the engine properly and so i replaced it and it helped a littlemy air intake is horrendous so i have a new one comin in. I guess what i really wanna know is are the stock 3.27 gears just lazy especially in second gear? I really need to know if im lacking alot of power or if it is just me.
