Question about explorer brake pads...

I recently installed some brake pads on my friends explorer...but i did not put the little skinny metal shims in...do the shims do anything? he wen't to a mechanic and the mechanic made it sound like the shims were extremely important yet the brake pads i took off didnt have them...any insight to this non mustang question?

Ganador, you mean the anti-squeel shims. Has an adhesive backing and attaches to pads itself. The fronts come with them but the rears do not. They need to be installed, keeps the brakes from squeeling like a pig as they wear on. The rears do not come with them because you are suppose to reuse the old clips. Each pad has 2. I suggest buyng new ones at the dealer, they don't cause that much. It is worth it cause you don't want to use old **** anyways.
