Rear Noise Mainly On Deceleration

damn sound is still there, at this point not sure what it can be. Everything inside the differential looked good. No broken pieces or metal shavings. Im dissapointed

Ok guys, they are telling me carrier bearing. Is it needed to do ring and pinion also?

That SUCKS big time! Can you put in a performance gear set so it is not a complete waste? Is the posi unit in good shape, cause it is right there now for inspection and or rebuild.

Find a new mechanic. That is insane.

I STILL Think the noise is just the gears howling. Didn't you say it has aftermarket gears? (I'm too lazy to re read the thread).

From what I saw when I opened the cover everything looked good. The mechanic has not opened the differential yet but test drove it the put it up in the rack and used a professional stethescope and its the right side carrier bearing. He tells me he recommends to change out the ring and pinion also to avoid going in there again. Car has stock gears

Put aftermarket gears in if you swap. You do NOT need to change the gears if they is no chips etc. i still say get a second opinion. That still sounds way too high.

I will get a second opinion but if it is a carrier bearing does the ring and oinion need to be changed out?
