Rebuilding An Aod Transmission?

I'm thinking about rebuilding my AOD transmission that recently went out instead of having a shop doing it or getting a new one. I have pretty decent mechanical knowledge and I'm trying to save some money. Is it worth the headache? Do i need special tools for the rebuild? I would like to rebuild it and stick a silverfox valve body on it.
