How much would it be to replace the rings or the ring that is around the piston that is in the cylinder that is burning oil.? i heard its gonna be like 800$ cuz of labor. So my car runs fine and i'd rather save up for a new engine
How do you know it is a ring for sure? It could be a valve seal or something like that. They are easy and cheap to fix. How many miles are on your block? If it has alot of miles there is a really good chance that it will have to be BORED .030 to get the job done. There is no sense in throwing fresh rings in old wore out bores.
yea i'm with mike. if it's a high mileage engine you can get a rebuilt one (stock 5.0) for not a whole lot more than your guesstimation on reringing your engine.
im looking at 700 right now for getting block diped, magnafluxed, stress releived, decked, all new bearings (including cam) and crank polished, all new piston rings. Only way i get it this cheap is becuase i took the engine apart myself and pulled the short block and gave it to them
Mine is at the machine shop getting the crank ground, and the block honed. Then new rings (file fits). Going to cost a bit, but a lot less than overbore!
Sounds like Indy's got the plan for the average man. Thats what I would do if working with only one engine. Personally, I like the idea of prepairing a whole new motor while driving on the existing one.
