Replacing an AOD with a 4R70W?

A couple of us have been working on this for some time,
trying to figure out all the little details.

Has anyone done this? If so would appreciate you
looking over this link - you'll have to read it thru
and carefully cuz it's been updated a few times and
not all the references to any given item may have
been updated w/the same info.

If you see anything wrong, or that you can add
from experience, would appreciate info / feedback.

I'm "closing in" on the big swap - trying to cover
all my bases.

One thing I'm not sure of yet - I imagine I'll
have to get a late 4R Mustang shifter? I don't
suppose the AOD shifter will mate up with the
4R manual lever? The trans I got is out of an
'00 pickup - do I need a Mustang manual lever
or are they all the same?

And I've seen an illustration in one online source
that shows a MPLS sensor alignment tool number
such and such to align the manual lever with
the MPLS sensor. Anybody know a source for
this, or a way to do the alignment without that
tool? Manuals are never good at giving alternate
ways to do things without those special tools.

Another issue is U joints - I've been able to
determine that the AOD & 4R are diff U joints.
Are there joints available with the proper
diff sizes to mate w/the AOD driveshaft &
the 4R yoke? Or is it time to work on the
driveshaft (being the standard length 4R
is 1" longer than the std length AOD) and
fix that problem while in the process?

Appreciate any input!

OH - also - a couple years ago or so I ran
across a video online that showed something
like a Vo Tech instructor or some such actually
going thru the major points of rebuilding an
AOD/E & 4R, but can't seem to locate the link
or the file. Thought I saved it, but guess I
lost it when a virus wiped my drive.

I'll of course get a "real" rebuild manual and
video, but for now, just for interest sake.

Anybody know about it and have a link?

Thanks!
