I bought a 1974 351W that came out of a Bronco. I have to have a RI state inspector come out to check the "serial" number on the car before I can register the car. He said the serial number in on the back of the engine where it meets the bellhousing. I can't seem to find anything. I have the casting number near the starter but that is it. I have heard that some Ford blocks did not have a serial number on them. Should there be a serial number on a 1974 Bronco motor? If so, where can I find it? Thanks for the help,
Doug

Are you looking for the serial number for the engine, or for the car?

My guess is the inspector wants to match the car's numbers, i.e., the VIN, with the number on the title.
Or does RI require that you have matching engine numbers? (which doesn't make immediate sense).

In any case, I believe the serial number for your engine is located on the underside of the block, near the starter mounting location.
