Should test fitting longtube headers really be this difficult?

The heat soak is definitely an issue but the size of the OEM starter is PITA too. On the LT install that I did on my 89, there was absolutely ZERO room to remove/replace the starter without pulling the headers. With all the ass pain you've gone through, getting those headers in there, I'd think you'd want a starter that you could swap without dropping the headers.

I fully agree but the more important thing at the moment is to get eveything I need to get it on the road again. If I have the extra $ I'll do it now but if not I'll do it later on as a side project. Already have $284 that I have to spend on the steering shaft, a catbsck and all the fluids and other odds and ends.
