starter solenoid keeps frying

i keep having to replace starter solenoids put one on and it will work for a day or two then it goes bad relace it and it works for another day or two what could keep killing them any suggestions

Do you mean the solenoid (mounted on the side of a mini-starter), or the fender mounted piece (which is actually a relay)?

at the auto parts store it pulls up as a a starter selonoid its on the fender well i think i figured it out its a bad ground, casing on the wire looked good but inside was all messed up ,broken ,thanks anyway for the replys

Are they Motorcraft or Generic?

motorcraft ,thought i fixed it still doing the same thing only other thing i can figure is a hot wire is grounding out some where

I had the same problem. This old guy I know told me to add another ground to the neg. side of the battery. It worked for two years or so.

read on here not to use newer model starter with carb set up thats what i have i am going to try an 88 model starter see if thats doing it.

well mines all stock

replaced the starter and i think its fixed the problem . must have had a short in the starter. it would start the car fine but kept pulling juice through the solenoid after it was started . tested the wire on top of the solenoid that plugs in after it was and it was still hot . its only supposed to be hot when starting
