Electrical Starts As I Let Go Of Key?

well Ive been searching for most of the gremlins that are in this car. So far most of them have been fixed. One last odd problem is that the car will crank forever until I let go of the key and give partial throttle. Ive gone through most of the tech articles and when ive jumped my starter solenoid with a screwdriver, it starts normally, without long crank. Ive replaced Ignition switch, and ive tested my TFI ( blinks when tested with a test light @ coil ) But no real answer is given? Any ideas?

This answer is for an older ignition with a separate coil, but try it. It sounds like you have power to the coil or ignition in the run position of the key/ignition switch, but not in the start position. Because the fuel pump is working and the engine is turning over, it will catch and run when the key goes back to run. Check the start power circuit to the ignition.

The TFI module has a red/blue wire on it that is connected to the starter circuit. The purpose of this wire is to tell the TFI to provide a hotter spark when cranking.

Use a safety pin to connect to the red/blue wire on the TFI and connect your voltmeter to it . Connect the other voltmeter lead to ground. Try to start the car in normal fashion. You should see 12 volts on the red/blue wire. No 12 volts, look for the small red/blue wire on the starter solenoid. Check for good 12 volts there, if it is good, there is a wiring problem between the starter red/blue wire and the red/blue wire on the TFI.
