Steering Rack Bushings

Can it be removed? It doesn’t protrude out front?

Not to throw in the white flag, but maybe it would be a good time to find an 85+ k-member. They are a touch wider
they are fairly large in diameter, the sleeve will fit inside it no problem as I could see this being the only problem using the newer model sleeves? No protrusion..

It's easier to install the rack on the older ones without the sleeves
The newer ones with the sleeves and the thinner bolts and are a better design IMO
The clear poly bushings started out on the police interceptor ones. Use those
If you stick with the older style let the inner bushing sleeves with the serrations do their job and use no washers

Have you ever removed the bushings and inner bushing sleeves from an older one? They seem to be pressed in?
Looks like I could reuse the serrated inner sleeves with some new bushings?

You just smack the hell out of of it and the rubber should come out of the rack
You need to turn it over from your picture (you will be hitting the little piece on the other side to smack it out)
Then you can slide the sleeve out of the rubber
Try to work some silicone or other lube in there from the other side too (makes it easier on the corroded ones)
You could press them out if you got pissed enough

If they are really ignorant (and you are replacing the rubber)
Cut the excess rubber off the other side
(give the bitches a circumcision)
And then you will be smacking just the sleeve and it will be a little easier

On the real ignorant ones the sleeve will come half out before the rubber starts moving
Yes you reuse the serrated sleeve
The Ford racks used to come with rack bushings including the sleeves in the box and also a bag of fittings
