stud mounted rocker arms and movement

Yes I think so. I just got done installing them in my new 347. They are the Trick Flow 1.7's and there is some left to right play in them. It's good to try to adjust the pushrod guideplate so that the pushrod is keeping the rocker arm on the center of the valve. Does that make any sense? Basically, try to get the roller tip to be in the center of the valve, so the left to right play is equal on either side.

Yeah, left/right play is normal. The most important alignment to get correct is the sweep of the roller across the valve stem. First priority is having as narrow of a sweep as possible. Second priority is centering the sweep, but not at the expense of #1.
