I've searched and have not found much information on this particular situation. My mother was driving her '05 from the dealership today after her routine oil change. After about 2 miles of driving, steam starts pouring out from under the hood. She pulls into the nearest parking lot and shuts it down. The dealership sends a tech out to look at it. Turns out the lower housing for the thermostat had shattered (love the plastic on these cars). Ford towed it back (free) and replaced both the lower housing and the stat.

After my search (and not really finding anything), I don't think this is a common problem. Anyone hear of a recall or something?

TIA

As you stated, this is not a normal problem on our 2005 Mustang GT cars...

Could be that the termostat housing was tightened too much or just a manufacturer's faulty housing...

Never the less, I'm glad that no one was hurt or broken down far from home...

I don't think you will ever have to replace this housing again...

Sounds too strange!!!
